The Beginning

Hello, I'm Maverick, the 10 month old Siberian Husky. I was adopted by my mom and dad the day after Christmas from a man who couldn't keep me because he had to move to Germany for work. I was mostly potty trained when I went to my new home and knew how to walk on a leash. The first couple weeks of my new life were very hectic. In one of my homes I met two of my new brothers, Charlie and Tubby. Tubby is very quiet and Charlie me to chase him around the yard and play with his toys. There's also a cat who drives me crazy because she knows the best hiding spots. My other home has my other brother, Toby, who is younger than me, so I like to show him how to be a dog. We bite each others faces for at least four hours a day, obviously. We also fight over each others toys because he always has the best one! Also at that home are a couple cats; one of whom hides well, at the other claws well. There are also these HUGE dogs who live outside in the dirt (they're so lucky!) and one of them ignores me, but the other one is a little grumpy. I was trying to sniff his huge butt and he kicked me in the gut. I will stay away from that one from now on. There are also these bunnies who I really really want to play with, but for some reason my mom and dad won't let me get near. It's weird too, because they seem like they really want to just hop around and play.

A few weeks after I came to my new home, my mom and dad put a vest on me and then took me to this huge place with lots of people. No one was really paying attention to me, so I just laid down and slept for a lot of it. Then we had to get into this really weird car with lots of seats. I like riding on the seat and I'm not sure why, but they made me lay on the floor. The car was really loud and wherever we drove must've been super far because it took forever! I just napped for most of it. When we got off, my mom took me outside and told me repeatedly to, "Go pee pee." I knew what she meant, but I really just didn't have to go. After what seemed like forever, we finally went back inside and I was able to take a decent nap. They offered me food and water, but I just really wanted to sleep. We got on another one of those weird cars, but I wasn't able to nap for too long because the ride was pretty short. We finally got off and I heard someone say, "Welcome to Miami," wherever that is. My mom took me outside again and asked me to, "Go pee pee," again. I was just so distracted with all the cars driving around and so much yummy grass to eat that I couldn't go. We went back inside and I met a lot of other nice dogs who seemed to have done this before. They told me that the weird car is actually called a plane. We finally got on another plane and there were about 20 other dogs and 4 cats. The dogs were all napping like me, but those darn cats just insisted on meowing. I will never understand them.

We finally got off that plane and we were somewhere that was really warm. My mom asked me to go pee pee again and boy did I have to go! After waiting in a line for what seemed like forever, we finally got into another car and got to our new home.

The next day my parents took me to what they called "the beach." There was this weird dirt under my feet that was really fun to roll in and also was a great place to poop in. There is a HUGE bathtub there that has these weird waves. I'm not sure what the waves are for, but I really don't like them going over my head. As long as someone will stand there with me and hold my front paws I'm fine. I do like to swim around a bit though. It's especially nice to get out of that bath and lay in that weird dirt. It gets all over my body and my parents have to brush me a lot when we get home. For some reason they don't like it when the dirt gets in the house. The people who we went to the beach with have this dog named Nevaeh. She said this is her first time here, too, but she doesn't really like me very much I don't think. She must have been really popular at home because she seems to know what is going on. There are all these people who come up to my parents and ask if they can pet me, but for some reason they never come close enough to actually touch me. They just back up and laugh and walk away.

Something amazing has happened at my new home. Something called The Chicken Fairy visits me sometimes and these delicious pieces of chicken appear in my food bowl! I haven't seen this fairy, but I love her! The Bacon Fairy visited once and that was also nice, but The Bread Fairy doesn't really have to visit again. I wasn't a fan of that fairy.

There are these awesome toys down here that literally grow on trees! Seriously, it's a never ending supply of them. Mom and dad call them coconuts, but they're so cool because you can just peel them with your teeth and they never seem to get destroyed because they're so tough. I love them. So far I have eaten all the stuffing out of my reindeer toy's head. I just loved it so much I HAD to destroy it. I also ate all of my rawhide. The tennis ball that was on the rope had no chance once I put my mind to it and I'm working really hard on the rope, but it doesn't seem to be dwindling. I also have this really cool, hard, bone that I like to bring to my parents and give to them. For some reason they cry out when I drop it on their foot, but I just want to share it.

When they leave me, I can watch them out the front window until they go down the stairs, so then I jump onto the table and watch them out the side window. Sometimes things get knocked off, but it's not really a big deal. There are these really cool paper squares that they use when they eat dinner and if they get knocked off the table I love it because they are so much fun to shred! They also have this really weird food bowl that's really tall so I can't get my head into it without knocking it over. I don't know why it's so tall; it has such delicious things in there. I knock it over a lot to try to tell my humans that they need to put that bowl in a lower bowl for me. They always seem upset when they come home after I've done that. Yesterday, they put it under the sink and for some reason there are these plastic things that prevent me from getting to that food bowl. Hopefully they take it out again.

When there isn't anything interesting in the food bowl, I can always count on them leaving cool toys in the closet. So far I have chewed a shoelace, a hat, a phone charger, a case for a Kindle, a pair of shorts, a part of Sanuks, a flip flop and a tampon. I want to show my parents how much I love the toys they leave for me, so I typically leave them in their bed to make sure they find them. For some reason they also have locked the toy closet, so I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I'll figure it out, I'm sure.

They take me on walks and runs every day. I really love to go running because that makes me poop really well. I never really have to go before the run, but during is the perfect time for me. My parents get frustrated because they have to pick it up, but hey, if you gotta go, you gotta go! They also have been taking me out on my leash and trying to get me to do things. I want to do them sometimes, but other times I just really don't want to pay attention. Why do I have to sit, stay and come a million times? I get it! Dad finally let me off the leash the other day and it was awesome! I ran all the way up the hill before he did because I'm so fast. We played for a little bit. He's not very good at tag, though, he's too slow. Finally I was tired of that game and we went home. The next day mom left the door open a crack and I ran out because I thought we were going for a run. I was right because mom and dad started running after me. I ran around the complex for a bit. Dad was almost able to tag me, but then I saw mom getting in the car, and I'm really not one to miss a car ride, so I jumped in. It was a trick though, because dad took me back home. Way to really get my hopes up.

It is now time to take a nap and then maybe sniff around a bit. I think I smell the Chicken Fairy, but I'm not really sure what she looks like, so I'm going to try to find her.
